Today’s report included a revision to the December number. It was revised upward to 82,000 new jobs from it’s original estimate of 18,000. So we added 64,000 more jobs during December than had been initially reported. After January’s 17,000 decline reported today, we’re still 47,000 jobs higher than what we thought was the situation yesterday.
Over the last 4 years, nonfarm total employment has grown by 170,000 per month on average. So relative to the past 4 years, this is showing a slowdown.
