Jim, most of us are down to 3rd or 4th choices in this election cycle. The sad fact is that now there are NO strong or really good conservatives running. We are all being forced to choose from what is left over and so there is quite a bt of divergence.

I respect everyone’s right to make that choice as they see fit, as I know you do. I respect your creation of FR and the good it has done for our country. It is, the most conservative and all-American gathering place on the net. The vast majority of the people who come here and have stuck it out are good, patriotic and committed Americans.

At this point we all have to look at people’s records and their current positions and actions and choose the one we are most comfortable with out of a pack that does not have good conservative credentials. That means we have to assess the good and the bad of each candidate, compare them, and then come down on the candidate we feel will best maintain some symbolance of our values.

People all over the country are doing it...here on FR, in Maine, and in a bunch of places on Tuesday.

I have picked Romney now as my distant 3rd place candidate. I am not happy that I have been put in that position, but there it is. I believe he has the best chance to stop McCain in the GOP, and also the best chance against either Hillary or Obama in the general...either of which would even be much, much worse disasters than McCain.

I do not for an instant believe that Romney would be a disaster for America. I believe he would hold to his commitments and probably be a place holder and a maintainer of where we are now until the GOP comes up with a true conservative. He may also surprise us and be stronger than we expect.

Apparently a large number of FR members and lurkers agree. Apparently a large number of people in Maine agree. As you wisely said, those two (and all his other victories as well) may not make any difference in the end, but I am glad to see it anyway at this point before the big day on Tuesday. Either way, Romney has a huge mountain to climb between now and the convention.

I am with you, Jeff. Sadly, JR, no can do. To me, Huckabee is just too dishonest. He lies about too many things when not lying would not have hurt him. Too much like another Dope from Hope. I cannot cast a vote for him. I will be voting for Romney to stop McCain.
