If it is true that Huckabee is trying to play spoiler for McCain then it logically follows that Huckabee will not drop out before McCain wins the nomination.

I'm not sure I followed you correctly, but....I just found out that a candidate needs a majority of all the delegates to win, not just more than another candidate. The total number of delegates is 2,348; therefore, a candidate needs 2348/2 + 1 to win or 1175. As long as Huckabee is getting delegates, they won't be going to McCain - and that's good. They won't be going to Romney either, but...

The underside to that is that if Huckabee drops out and endorses McCain, the delegates typically go to the one endorsed. I don't know if I trust Huckabee that much myself, to take that risk.

So, if it’s true that McCain is the likely winner if Huckabee drops out early, best hope Huckabee doesn’t drop. Sounds like a plan to me.
