Right. Romney promises now to be pro-life. NOW that he wants to be president. And Huckabee promises to secure the borders. Hell, even McCain NOW promises to secure the borders. And Giuliani promised to appoint strict constructionists. Campaign promises are worth diddly squat.
McCain can’t even promise that he won’t sign McCain-Kennedy if it lands on his table, all he says is “it won’t get there”.
Yes campaingn promises are worth diddly squat.
However I am not willint to give a “pass” based on being a guitar base player.
We need a state by state analysis.
romeny and mccain have to be close together with romney just over the top for a brokered convention to work.
If mccain has the lead he gets to cut deals with him as the president.
If the goal is to stop mccain, not just to have a brokered convention, then it all the tactics have to be driven and compromised to that goal.
It all depends on the ultimate goal.
And that is exactly why Rush Limbaugh has always said if you want to know how a candidate will govern, look at his record not his statements during the campaign. If you look at these three candidates' records, Mitt Romney has THE MOST liberal record of the Republicans, followed closely by McCain. Huckabee, while certainly a RINO has nowhere near the magnitude of baggage the other two have. Having said that, I don't want any of them and will likely vote for Fred Thompson or Alan Keyes in the primary here in Maryland. I truly pray that we have a brokered convention that nominates Fred as the GOP candidate. ![]() |
