Former Gov. Frank Murkowski wants to be a player again in the high-stakes game of building a pipeline to tap North Slope's natural gas.
Murkowski has re-emerged after a year out of office and the public eye.
When he was the state's chief executive, he couldn't garner enough legislative support for a deal with Exxon Mobil Corp., ConocoPhillips and BP that he hoped would eventually lead to a pipeline.
Now, Murkowski says he's planning to meet with oil companies in an unspecified role as the Legislature moves forward on Gov. Sarah Palin's gas line plan - a rewrite of Murkowski's failed attempt.

The current governor says (the end of the article):
While Palin says she'll listen to what Murkowski has to say, it doesn't appear her mind will be changed by going back to how he approached a pipeline.
"This process has been the antithesis of the Murkowski process," Palin said Tuesday. "We are on two different roads. We based our process on transparency and competitiveness.
"We are confident our process will get us a gas line as opposed to the four years of speaking behind closed doors, negotiating solely with an entity made up of the three producers."
SNIP . . .. .How could ex-Gov. Murkowski be of most help in bringing Alaska a North Slope gas line?
By heeding the verdict of Alaska voters and quietly returning to his political retirement.
BOTTOM LINE: Frank Murkowski help with the state's gas line promotion efforts? No thanks.
Gov Palin was a little torqued over this. You could hear it in her voice, but she is a talented and practiced public speaker and covered fairly well.
LOL
SO funny from so many different views
The Frank gets waxed (and I mean WAXED) in the Primaries. What does he do? Takes the state jet and leaves the state.
Then shows back up a year later to act as the oil company stooge (Again)
He acts on TeeVee like someone cares what he thinks (they don’t)
And any oil company folks who deal with him had better have some very good documentation about what was said in any meetings as Stubborn Sara loves to wield the “corruption” tarbrush with abandon.
Frank will spill more printers ink than Exxon actually paying the damage award for the oil spill.....
Stay tuned, more comix to follow, Frank is BACK - let the games begin!
He MUST BE getting encouragement from some source . .. .
. . . .but what influence does he think he'll have on the current gov who years ago quit him and then THOROUGHLY TROUNCED him in his re-election bid.
. . And the reader comments haven't been kind to him.
