The VAT tax that the Fair tax is (no, it is not a consumption tax) has proven to be a disaster and it too can and will morph into a wealth redistribution system.

Actually, the VAT is neither an income tax nor a consumption tax; it is a tax on incremental work-in-process, hence, a "value-added" tax.

Unless the public has the resolve to keep a close eye on our elected representatives, any tax system can be abused and morphed to their liking.

You obviously haven't bothered to read the information at The Americans For Fair Taxation website. Fair tax FAQ #1. Had you done so you would realize The Fair Tax is not close to being a VAT as it will abolish business to business taxes and corporate income taxes thereby eliminating taxing each stage of production as does a VAT. Only the final sage of production will be taxed at the point of sale.

Your ignorance of the Fair Tax is glaring. The FT is no more a VAT than my dog is a feline. Better do some reading on the FT vs. a VAT.

It might morph into a wealth redistribution system. As written, it is nothing of the sort.

Under the current system, we give select groups “refundable credits” against tax never paid. If anything, your criticism should be levied against the current monstrosity, not the Fair Tax.

What “MIGHT” happen is irrelevant to the discussion. We MIGHT find out the moon is made of green cheese. Does that mean the Fair Tax, as written, is unworthy of consideration?
