“The FairTax also would dramatically expand the tax base by making illegal aliens, criminals, pimps, prostitutes, drug dealers and visitors to this country subject to the FairTax.”
The moment we knowingly tax illegal aliens, is the moment we grant them amnesty. It would seem to be a show of approval. I know our legislators are that desperate for revenue (politicians life-blood), but are we?

now that Rudy is gone, Huckabee is the only one who wants a flat tax and completely change the tax code
hmmm not even Ron Paul

Spending cuts are important but doesn’t he understand the problem of all the lobbyists that live off the system? The hours and $ that people have to throw away just to file correctly? All the audits? The tremendous tax bias that favors some companies and activities over others?

Your thinking is 180 degrees backwards. You obviously aren't aware the income tax code encourages amnesty because it allows illegal aliens to have their own tax ID number to file income taxes. This procedure is tacit approval for illegals to earn an income in the U.S. and therefore only encourages them to violate our immigration laws. This became a point of contention yesterday in the Senate as the current "stimulus package" involving tax rebates would have included illegal aliens.
The Fair Tax will substantially reduce illegal's reason for staying in the U.S. since it will no longer encourage them to earn an income as the tax burden will shift from income to consumption. They will pay more in taxes with The Fair Tax than the income tax giving them more motivation to leave the country.

Are you serious? Give me a break, it does nothing of the sort. What it does is it makes people contribute to the cost of running the government whether legal or not. They still need to be sent back to their country of origin, but while they are here, make sure they are paying something.

No to Fair tax
Yes to Flat tax
The fair Tax is a flat tax on consumption. The flat tax on income you espouse has been proven in this country to be a disaster. It's called the income tax. It began as a flat tax covering less than one half of one percent of the population. It has evolved into the oppressive complicated mess we have today covering more than 80% of the population. Another flat tax on income will only morph into another mulitiered tax mess.

True, but I was only referring to the title of the bill.

The “solutions” offered by Romney and McCain amount to rearranging the deck chairs. The system is fundamentally broken and must be completely overhauled.

The VAT tax that the Fair tax is (no, it is not a consumption tax) has proven to be a disaster and it too can and will morph into a wealth redistribution system.
To: mcjordansc
Good point. Plus it removes the incentive to pay under the table since American workers will get 100% of their pay not ~55%. The same as illegals.

Exactly! More tinkering of the federal income tax code is simply more of the same con job on the American people.

I wish that were true. My guess is American workers will get 100% of the 55% they currently take home.

The VAT tax that the Fair tax is (no, it is not a consumption tax) has proven to be a disaster and it too can and will morph into a wealth redistribution system. Actually, the VAT is neither an income tax nor a consumption tax; it is a tax on incremental work-in-process, hence, a "value-added" tax.
Unless the public has the resolve to keep a close eye on our elected representatives, any tax system can be abused and morphed to their liking.

You obviously haven't bothered to read the information at The Americans For Fair Taxation website.
Fair tax FAQ #1. Had you done so you would realize The Fair Tax is not close to being a VAT as it will abolish business to business taxes and corporate income taxes thereby eliminating taxing each stage of production as does a VAT. Only the final sage of production will be taxed at the point of sale.
