That was the basis for the movie The Day After Tomorrow which was based on the book coauthored by Art Bell. Art is a Libertarian. From what I remember the thawing ice was supposed to turn off the Gulf Steam which would then cause the Northeastern US and Western Europe to get significantly colder. The problem was that the depicted magnitude of cooling was significantly exaggerated to say the least. In fact even hard core Environmentalist slammed the movie since it was hyping the potential. Just take a look at what happens here on the west coast of the US. We have no Gulf Stream. In fact just the opposite occurs. We have an Alaskan Stream. And right now we are experiencing a significant La Nina which causes cold water to upwell. And even with all that occurring, Seattle is not buried under ice as New York was depicted in that movie. Granted we are colder here on the west and there has been significant snow amounts, but we also have the new Cosmic Ray theory to explain the increased levels of moisture.
At any rate, I thought the Chinese were claiming that they could control the weather ?
