I thought stoats were large animals once ridden by thrints -- or thrintun, to use their plural.

Or thus Larry Niven, once upon a time. Or was that a line from Heinlein's Time Enough for Love? "Thrints riding stoats." That's what I remember.

It's been decades since I've read any science fiction, so I apologize that I can't confirm or deny any issues pertaining to thrints and stoats.

My own experience suggests that modern-day stoats, being smallish in stature but immense in terms of intellect and erudition (snicker, chortle) would generally not put up with being ridden by anything or anyone.

The common Weasel, however, now that's a different story.  They will typically have no class and no shame, and will allow any indignity to be perpetrated against them as long as the price is right.
