Brattleboro to vote on arresting Bush, Cheney

BRATTLEBORO (ruthlandherald.com) — Brattleboro residents will vote at town meeting on whether President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney should be indicted and arrested for war crimes, perjury or obstruction of justice if they ever step foot in Vermont.

The Brattleboro Select Board voted 3-2 Friday to put the controversial item on the Town Meeting Day warning.

According to Town Clerk Annette Cappy, organizers of the Bush-Cheney issue gathered enough signatures, and it was up to the Select Board whether Brattleboro voters would consider the issue in March.

Cappy said residents will get to vote on the matter by paper balloting March 4.

Kurt Daims, 54, of Brattleboro, the organizer of the petition drive, said Friday the debate to get the issue on the ballot was a good one. Opposition to the vote focused on whether the town had any power to endorse the matter.

This measure, itself, is an unconstitutional Bill of Attainder, a legislative declaration of guilt. This pipsqueak assemblage can vote to order an investigation if it likes, but it cannot order an indictment (which is, after all, an assertion of guilt) by legislative vote.

Doing so is a violation of Article I, Section 9; Clause 3 of the United States Constitution:
"No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed."

The impeachment process is not an exception since the House and Senate sit as, respectively, a grand jury and a trial court with full common-law court procedures and legal protections in force.

The thing about Vermont...is that no one moves there. Folks in Vermont...kinda finish school and about half of them leave the state for better wages and a better life elsewhere. So the folks that remain there...for decades...are folks who don’t have a full grasp of life. Most are unaccepting of any lifestyle change...or radical upstaging of their life. If you announced that a Air Force base was opening up a mile down the road...they’d go into a seizure.

Let ‘em pass their resolution. The rest of us can take it as an act of hostility against our President and nation and respond to the citizens of Battleboro accordingly.

You wanna take out the President. Go ahead and say it formally.

Prattleboro Vermont was last in the news over a series of nudist uprisings last year:

Clothing-optional town drops bid to ban nudity

Vermont's clothing-optional capital is stripping off its temporary ban on public nudity. A month after passing the temporary ban after an elderly tourist strolled naked through the centre of town, Brattleboro city board members voted 3-2 on Tuesday to reject a proposed ordinance that would have made it permanent. When the emergency temporary ordinance expires next month, public nudity will no longer be illegal.

Vt. Town Says No to Public Nudity Ban

Rantburg has the rest of the naked truth, with additional stories from now dead links.

My plan: Get a written opinion from the AG, then send federal marshals to arrest the hippie assemblage for violating Cheney’s and Bush’s civil rights by passing an unconstitutional Bill of Attainder.

Sounds good to me. My mother in law is a Vermonter. Her people settled there from Canada after the Revolution. She hates what it has become.

Cheney - “They’re hanging us in effigy”

Bush - “Well, let’s steer clear of that town”

"...violation of US code 18,1871."

Great! Where do we go to file Federal charges against the members of the town board of Battleboro? Or even make a Federal complaint?

It’s actually US Code 18, 871. Threats against the President. I’ve already contacted the DOJ, not that they care but just doing my civic duty.

Exactly right. They have no legal or constitutional grounds to arrest Federal officials. So they are actually threatening to commit a crime. They are making a public threat to the President and VP.

Just a side observation...remember when GWB physically rescued his personal Secret Service agent by reaching in and pulling him out of the clutches of another country’s security who were trying to stop him from accompanying the President into a state dinner there??

And since that happened, the 61 yr old has only looked even stronger than ever after many months of mountain biking as well as his usual power lifting. If you saw him in the FNC special on Sunday evening, you saw one past middle age guy who can and who would handle such an attempt himself, should it be tried.

President Bush and VP Cheney should visit the town with a BN of Marines and their SS security entourage. Then publicly DARE the local yokels to attempt an arrest...

I wish he would go to the town, take his Secret Service and a few Marines and dare anyone try to arrest him.
