that is a new term for me. In my river bank fishing days in the south it was used for snakes.

In NC, it is legal to carry a .22 caliber pistol out of hunting season, most people carry them when fishing around areas were snakes could be hiding in the grass etc.
In rural areas it is not uncommon at all to see fisherman armed thusly.
