WASHINGTON — President Bush was set to act Tuesday on his State of the Union promise to sign an executive order directing federal agencies to ignore any future earmarks not voted on by Congress. Bush warned lawmakers he would flourish his veto pen if Congress does not rein in the number of congressional earmarks — money set aside for pet projects — that make it into law without a vote. As many as 95 percent of earmarks are inserted after Congress has voted on appropriations measures, and the pork is never seen by most lawmakers.

If he had done that in in 2004, he might still have a Republican majority in Congress.
A strong stand taken when there is absolutely no chance for it to make a difference.
Considering the fact that it does not take effect till next year, it is 99.9% BS.
I support it given the fact it must be removed by executive order. Explaining that could prove difficult.

He did his best to scuttle the evil conservatives when they took him on about Harriet Meyer and his Amnesty plan. I really thnk that his lack of defending himself and his party was payback for the conservatives for not rubber stamping his nominee and Amnesty bill. Now he is trying to act like a conservative again. A little to little and a little to late IMHO.
I did hear today that Clinton has added around 261 earmarks since her election in 2000. McCain has no earmarks at all and he’s been there for 25 or so years. Can anyone verify this?
I heard that too. At least that is one difference in the two. Perhaps a vote for McCain would be better than not voting although I am still not too sure.
I don’t like McCain. I don’t think he has the temperament to be President. That being said, come November I will absolutely vote for the lesser of two evils. I really don’t want the greater of two evils to win.

Except by a democrat. They won’t explain it at all and the media won’t ask. It would be barely mentioned.
McCain/Feingold was supposed to be vetoed by Bush, who sold out and signed the bill, now making it law that we are shut out less than 30 days before an election - insuring continued "job security" from those at the top who are sucking us dry, then telling us that illegal aliens only want to do the jobs that ordinary Americans refuse to do.
Those guys need to be packed up once and for all and sent back to the boonies.
