Sometimes I am amazed at what JR writes. I’ve seen Romney admit he was wrong, but I don’t remember seeing Ronald Reagan prostrate before us begging forgiveness for his mistake in California, OR for appointing judges that solidified Roe V. Wade, which as much as anything could be blamed for the millions of deaths (I don’t blame him, but the reasoning used by JR would).

Once Roe was the law, NOTHING Romney did contributed to abortion in any serious way. He may have even prevented an abortion or two in his private life with his church, and his giving to his church helped fund many people who couseled people to not perform abortions.

But so long as we are going to be stuck in the mindset where we try to hold every individual who ever supported a woman’s right to choose personally responsible and culpable for the deaths of all the aborted babies, we will relegate the pro-life movement into oblivion.

Would I love to hear a Romney take such a step — actually, yes. I would love it if every person who was ever pro-choice would, when becoming pro-life, acknowledge that their previous belief condoned the murder of the innocent.

But the idea that we are going to require a public flogging of people who are not right on an issue simply to assuage our own anger over the murder of the innocent is a non-starter.

If we get a solid, life-time pro-lifer elected, it will be by LUCK, because we happen to find an otherwise appealing candidate who also happens to have been right about abortion. Fealty to the pro-life movement alone isn’t going to win anything.

Fred Thompson was the darling of FR, and so far as I can tell, before his run for PResident he never really spoke out in any way to stop the slaughter of abortion. Yes, he did vote appropriately on the margins, and maybe saved a few hundred lives here and there. But even TODAY, Thompson SUPPORTS ABORTION for rape and incest.

I would expect a good pro-lifer with the views expressed in that post by JR to call for Fred Thompson to prostrate himself for supporting the death of babies who did nothing wrong but are being punished for the sins of their parents. Or to confess his sin for supporting first-and-second trimester abortions in 1994, or for not speaking out in Hollywood for the pro-life position when he had the stage and the public’s attention to do so.

We could spend our time extracting our pound of flesh while the next 1.2 million babies die, or we can let GOD be the judge and try to elect the man who offers the best promise to end abortion — which between McCain and Romney I think is Romney, because he is much more vocal now and willing to adopt the pro-life stance while McCain, who has been better on the issue, seems to not like to discuss it.

“Thompson SUPPORTS ABORTION for rape and incest.”

As do most thinking people that consider themselves pro-life.
