You cant battle abortion from the White House. The only thing the president can do is appoint judges and even then they need to pass a Democrat-controlled Senate. So you can elect the most anti-Abortion person in the country and might not make any progress at all because of the check and balance of the government.

The battle needs to be fought by the states through ballot amendments and in the court system. Thats how the partial-birth abortion ban was eventually allowed to stand. Many states have passed amendments for parental notification. So progress is being made.

This is how you have to do it...one piece at a time. You try to ban abortion in one big swoop and your going to stir up a hornets nest.

That’s why we really need a national educational ad campaign instead of waiting for the court decision from lala land (which will only end up increasing illegal abortions anyway)

You make a lot of sense, jerry. You must agree, though, that conservatives want to back a candidate who at least represents SOME of their values. Also, we all want someone who can powerfully take on a Democratic nominee.

Huckabee may satisfy the conservatives, but I doubt he can match the Clinton machine or Obama's obvious ambition and gift of public speaking.

“You cant battle abortion from the White House. The only thing the president can do is appoint judges ...”

That isn’t true. The president makes appointments to the Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Institutes of Health. More importantly, he can use his position to influence public opinion on the issue, as demonstrated so well by President Reagan.
