(ABC 4 News) SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley has died. He was 97 years old.
President Gordon B. Hinckley, world leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was ordained and set apart as the 15th President of the Church on Sunday, March 12, 1995.
He had earlier served 14 years as a counselor in the First Presidency, the top governing body of the Church, and as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for 20 years prior to that.
President Hinckley married Marjorie Pay in the Salt Lake Temple in 1937. They have five children. Sister Hinckley passed away 6 April 2004.
The exact cause of President Hinckley's death was not immediately released, but his health has been declining over the past two years due to a bout with cancer and complications of old age.
Stay tuned to ABC 4 News for more on this story.
President Hinckley was well-known to joke about his advanced age. His humor was one of the things that the members of the church loved most about him.
Do you belong to the Westboro Baptist Church?
translated: “Don’t crap on someone’s funeral”.
It’s that pesky common decency thing.
nice double standard
What double standard? I’m not crapping on someone’s funeral, you are.
what exactly have I done on this thread
Accusing people of slamming your faith? What was that all about?
And not on this thread specifically, but on the other one you made some inappropriate comments and both mods told you to cool it.
The man DIED, ok? There’s plenty of opportunities to debate theology, I have no problem with that, but these threads aren’t the right place.
the poster said I hope the Mormon haters can hold their spew for at least a couple of days.
#1, he's immediately characterized anyone who has issues with the LDS doctrine as "haters". This is not the case. He's made a request, fair enough
He continues He was also one of the few heads of a church who did not drive a Bentley.....yet then he pulls the same stunt he bemoans
You'll note I originally flagged the mod who, while asking me to leave another thread, said nothing here.
I had made no mention of Hinckley, his death or Mormon doctrine on this thread- so exactly how did I crap on his funeral?
Having now explained it, I will abandon this thread
I wonder if his wife found a way to get a copy of the WSJ each morning. You know that Pres. Hinckley will be looking for it.
and I did
you are thread jumping, that is against the rules
He continues He was also one of the few heads of a church who did not drive a Bentley.....yet then he pulls the same stunt he bemoans
I see your point. I had made no mention of Hinckley, his death or Mormon doctrine on this thread- so exactly how did I crap on his funeral?
You're right. I apologize.
no need - have a good day
Post #33 was actually meant for you.
I posted and my thread was deleted by the mod. I am not a Mormon hater and all I did was respond to a statement that Mormons are Christian. How is discussion of this make me or anyone else a hater of Mormons? That is like calling me homophobic because I say that homosexuality is a sin. This is your line of thinking and it is just as bad as being a hater.
Well, I didn’t see your post so I can’t say for sure you’re a hater or not. The ones I did see before they got pulled were pretty nasty, though.
And it’s pretty tasteless to post stuff like that in a thread mourning the death of the President of the Church. NOT the right place for it.
It was not the right place to state that Mormons are Christians if the poster wasn’t ready for feedback.
Dude. Give it a rest.
