I doubt if Christ ever saw a piece of silk in his entire life — or drank from a golden cup.

"And crucifying him, they divided his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take."

I have always thought that his clothes were probably much nicer than are traditionally supposed, since generally people don't compete or fight over dirty rags. Just something to think about.

It is said that Jesus had an especially fine robe, or outer garment, being seamless.
That aside, many bored soldiers, especially in the lower ranks, will gamble for ‘most anything.
