Asked if Thompson would be on his "shortlist," Romney answered, "Anybody who ran for office in this field is a very strong individual and should be considered as a VP nominee for me or somebody else. He is a terrific and highly capable guy."

Mitt was asked if he would consider Fred. What do we expect him to answer? “Naah, he’s too old” ? IMO, his answer is a standard polite answer that doesn’t commit to anything nor put down anybody.

Thompson did even hardly try to run for President, why would he want to be Vice President?
That is the mindset that has created the problem in the first place.
When winning usurps true conviction then what is achieved by winning?

This reads to me as simply more shameless pandering.
As for me, I don’t care who’s on the bottom of the ticket if I believe the top of the ticket is unacceptable. Romney is unacceptable for me. So, Romney/Thompson wouldn’t hold any weight, even if I believed Romney was serious (and I don’t).
If they were concerned about winning they wouldn't have nominated Cheney. As much as I admire the man he was a very poor VP pick when it comes to grooming a successor.

It’s unabashed editorializing in an article title. Romney said Thompson was good enough after being asked by a reporter. Maybe the reporter should have asked him about issues instead, rather than their usual pony show?
