Lyndon loved Lady Bird, too, and she loved him. She put up with it, saying something about his affairs being nothing but, “flies on the wedding cake.” I loved Lady Bird too, and like Jackie, she deserved better. Democrat wives seem to put up with it. I could not even fathom NANCY REAGAN putting up with anything like that.

The saddest of the lot was Pat Nixon IMHO.
I don’t think Nixon messed around but he was as cold as ice towards Pat.
And you’re right about Nancy——she wouldn’t have put up with it.

I would think the more apt phrase should have been "turds on the wedding cake" -- but if she didn't have enough respect for her own marriage to expect fidelity from her coarse, priapastic horndog of a "husband" then she is free to regard his behavior as mere "flies".....
