Aside from George Bush Sr. and Lyndon Johnson, no VP in recent history was elected president. (Gerald Ford served as president for a short time but was never elected on his own.)

Here are a few of the recent VPs who didn't make it:

Al Gore (Thank God); Dan Quayle; Walter Mondale, Nelson Rockefeller; Spiro Agnew, Hubert Humphrey, Alben Barkley, etc.
