Rudy Giuliani's toughness edged toward ruthlessness and became a defining aspect of his mayoralty. NYC spent at least $7M settling civil rights lawsuits and paying retaliatory damages during the Giuliani years. After unidentified city workers complained of pressure to hand contracts to Giuliani-favored organizations, investigators examined not the charges but the leakers' identity.
There were constant loyalty tests: Will you shoot your brother? said Marilyn Gelber, environmental commissioner under Mr. Giuliani. People were marked for destruction for disloyal jokes.
Giuliani paid careful attention to the art of political payback. When former Mayors Koch and Dinkins spoke publicly of Mr. Giulianis foibles, their official portraits were removed from City Hall. Mr. Koch wrote a book titled Giuliani: Nasty Man .........
When newspapers revealed Mr. Giulianis youth commissioner, the Rev. John E. Brandon, suffered tax problems, Giulianis press secretary dialed reporters and served up a hotter story: A former youth commissioner under Mr. Dinkins had ladled millions of dollars to the former mayor's supporters. And someone had destroyed Dept of Youth Services records and hard drives and stolen computers in an apparent effort to obscure what had happened to that money. My immediate goal is to get rid of the stealing, to get rid of the corruption, Mr. Giuliani told The Daily News.
None of it was true.
The Department of Investigation found no politically motivated contracts and no theft. But Richard Murphys professional life was wrecked. I was soiled merchandise the taint just lingers, he said recently. A major foundation recruited Murphy to work on the West Coast. A senior Giuliani official called the foundation confirmed on the condition of anonymity for fear of embarrassing the organization and the prospective job disappeared. He goes to people and makes them complicit in his revenge, Mr. Murphy said.

AWESOME! Rudy certainly has the right enemies!
Right. The nyt is working overtime to destroy Rudy and advance McQueeg. Some of the Freepers are trying to win the the Pinch Sulzberger gold medal award to see who can post the most nyt articles.
Nice to know the NY Times can exhibit common sense when needed-—but then a dork like Rooty’ll do that to the average liberal somnambulist. He’s a wake-up call to the political left.
Just realize that you are siding with troop-hating anti-Americans like Pinch Sulzberger. As is John McCain.
Rudy just went up a few points on my chart, but he still has a way to go!! (He’s 3rd or 4th on my spread sheet)

As a Romney supporter, let me say that I both congratulate and envy Mr. Giuliani on the specific non-endorsement of the NY Times. Quite an honor.
Likewise, I would like to take this opportunity to offer my condolences and pity to Mr. McCain for the vicious character assassination that the NY Times endorsement causes. Perhaps he should consider legal action under a libel suit to force the NY Times to unendorse him?
AFTER HE SAW THE POLLS.
Ouch!
AFTER APPLYING COVER GRAY.
AFTER ROOTY GOT THE NAME OF LIZ'S HAIRDRESSER
What????
Whoever gave him the name of my hairdresser is in b-i-g trouble.
Yeah, but don't you think that Rudy was also hurt a little by getting caught being a pervert?
I think that the anti-pervert bias kept him from getting a fair hearing.

LOL.
And yes, the Media desire to promote the media-bootlicking McCain is a transparent one. And yet, the NYT seems to have goods on Rudy that would have sunk his campaign later. it shows that Rudy does have skeletons. Rudy was a frontrunner until the story of NYPD acting as shuttle service for his honey come out. Better now than in October.
I’m trying my best to remember Rudy for his post-911 strength and fortitude when it was needed most and his weak campaign.
