I think he would be very Cheney-like. A deep thinker, a true conservative, very articulate with deliberate, measured speech.

And unfortunately, like Cheney, Fred would be too old to make a run for President after potentially two 4 year Romney terms.

I like Fred, but I would much prefer the GOP candidate for VP is someone who could pick up the mantle so we're not in the pickle we're in this year - without a standard bearer. Maybe there's a Republican governor out there who, with Romney, could run on a ticket of beltway OUTsiders.

Yes, good point. I was really hoping for a Thompson/Hunter ticket for just that reason. As has already been discussed on FR, there are a number of fine, conservative VP candidates out there who could serve that purpose.
