What some people fail to realize is that by granting legal status to the 12 to 20 million illegals already here

I keep seeing these numbers with no reference to a creditable source. I suspect that the numbers are at least double those.

Anybody out there have a reference to a valid study on just how bad it is?

The 2005 Bear Stearns Report estimated that there were 20 million. If you accept that 500,000 enter illegally every year, then the number today is 21 million. There are higher numbers out there, but the truth is nobody knows. This points to the fallacy of making public policy like CIR without knowing exactly how many people are involved. In 1986, the USG estimated that one million would apply for amnesty. The number turned out to be 2.7 million. If the USG estimates are that far off this time, we would drown in a sea of immigrants, illegal and legal.
