In some ways malaria is worse nowadays because so many of the drugs are no longer effective in its treatment but it’s still a killer.

Chris Matthews suffers from diabetes, and was hospitalized in fall 2006 for diabetic complications. He also survived a bout of malaria in 2002 that he likely contracted in Africa.
