ORLANDO, Florida (AP) -- Donald Miller still loves God and Jesus. Don't misunderstand him.
His problem is with Christianity, at least how it's often practiced.
"It's a dangerous term so I try to avoid it," said Miller, who considered giving up his career as a Christian writer and leaving the church in 2003 because he couldn't attend services without getting angry.
For him, the word conjured up conservative politics, suburban consumerism and an "insensitivity to people who aren't like us."
To quell his rage, he sat in his boxer shorts and banged out a memoir of his experiences with God, stripped of the trappings of religion.
"Blue Like Jazz: Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality" sold just enough to pay a few months rent. Then five years later, spurred by a grass-roots movement of 20-something Christians longing to connect to God without ties to the religious right, the book became a sudden hit.
Fans were buying caseloads and passing out copies to friends. It peaked at No. 18 on The New York Times list of best-sellers among paperback nonfiction in November. He was mobbed by fans after a recent Young Life conference in Orlando where he addressed a crowd of roughly 4,000.

And as I said, I have no interest in reading it (which I already stated). There's plenty of good reading material around. I don't need to read the rantings of a rage-filled leftist 'Christian'.
It's not that they are not important. It's that we must trust God for them.
Luke 12
22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?
27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
...we will weep at how beautifully PERFECT our lives on Earth actually were...
I agree that if you mean that God is Soverign over a perfect and in no way tragic, history and that all things work together to the good of them who are in Christ Jesus. However, we may weep for our losses as well.
1 Corinthians 3
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

Things sure have changed.
I read the article and the quotes from this guy. If you enjoy reading books written by 'progressive Democrats', go for it. I have better things to read.
That tells me all I need to know about you. Of COURSE you'd enjoy the rantings of this 'progressive Democract'.
Have a nice day.
>>That tells me all I need to know about you.<<
Wow. Just wow.
That’s funny.
Try saying you are a Conservative in an ELCA Church here in the People’s Soviet of Washington State.
I get the same reaction.
Unfortunately you're right, though we should be better than that.
You are welcome! Yes, let’s stay vigilant and stay in God’s Word. Honestly, I had no idea this stuff was going on in the church until a couple of months ago. I’ve done a lot of reading about these things, and I am shocked that so many Christians are being deceived! Come quickly, Lord Jesus!
Except he isn’t a “rage-filled leftist ‘Christian’”.
Thanks Dad, that means the world to me.
vicious calumny can masquerade so easily as “exaggeration. “ You could have picked that up very easily off Moveon.
Let me change that for ya..."Like Jesus' tirade in HIS temple?
Going to church made him angry.
Conservatism makes him angry.
He's a rage-filled leftist "Christian".
Going to Church didn’t make him angry. Conservatism didn’t make him angry. There was something in his own spirit that made him angry, and that is what the book is about.
But don’t read the book, just spend time in your ignorant state with the self-satisfaction that you can’t possibly be wrong.
As is always the case.
that is what the book is about.
Sure doesn't sound like it from this article.
just spend time in your ignorant state with the self-satisfaction that you cant possibly be wrong.
LOL Nothing like over-reacting to someone not wanting to read a particular book. Untwist your panties, sweetie.
It’s not that you don’t want to read it, it’s that you are lying about the book and the author. Your comments may keep other people from reading it and it may be what some people need to read.
