They claimed it was parachute flares because it was parachute flares.

Pilots saw the VERY LARGE CRAFT at a different time than when whe flares were out.
DO THE HOMEWORK BEFORE pontificating so adamently!
One IIRC former military pilot asserted there was enough room on the SOLID CRAFT TO LAND his commercial jet. IIRC, he was looking down on the craft.
BTW, I have friends and relatives in Phoenix . . . No way I’ll accept the whole thing was flares.
Flares came out afterwards as a disinformation stunt imho.
