Actually Thompson was about as strong of a free trader as anyone running. That was an issue that Hunter and Thompson had publically clashed about. He probably also thought that Thompson was weak on the right to life issue. Not to mention the fact that we all expected Thompson to drop out out after he came in third in SC. It was the night of the SC primaries that Hunter dropped and Fred was only 3 or 4 days behind him so he probably wanted to see if Fred was staying in before he even would consider endorsing him.
That’s true. I guess I keep forgetting that while I liked Thompson’s views (and Romneys) on China, they weren’t at all like Hunter’s views. IT was the biggest difference I had with Hunter on a major policy issue.
I was never a Hunter person. I felt he was conservative, but I didn’t seriously consider him, maybe because he never polled high enough for me to care. I did send him money once when pissant was suspended.
