Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) To The Bush White House: Withdraw Your Brief
GOA Alert ^ | 01/23/2008 | GOA

Posted on 01/23/2008 11:55:06 AM PST by P8riot

Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) has sent the following letter to the White House asking them to undo the huge harm they have caused the Second Amendment with the brief they filed in the DC gun ban case.

-------------------------------------

January 22, 2008

President George W. Bush
The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington DC 20500

Dear President Bush:

Your Solicitor General has just filed a brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in the D.C. v. Heller case arguing that categorical gun bans of virtually all self-defense firearms are constitutional if a court determines they are "reasonable" -- the lowest standard of constitutional review.

If this view prevails, a national ban on all firearms -- including hunting rifles -- could be constitutional, even if the court decides -- on ample historical evidence -- that the Founders intended the Second Amendment as an individual right.

I would ask that you direct the Justice Department to withdraw this unfortunate brief and to replace it with an opinion which reflects the right of law-abiding Americans to keep and bear arms.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely yours,

Virgil Goode

I thought it might be interesting to point out that up until about 10 yrs ago (or so) Virgil Goode was a Democrat.

Good on Virgil, Bush once again blew it. He’s trying awfully hard to finish his administration with the lowest approval ratings ever. (shaking my head)

Rep. Goode is following up his action by circulating the letter among his colleagues. He is asking other members of Congress to add their signatures in anticipation of sending President Bush another copy of the letter.

Your help is needed immediately to convince your Representative to join with Rep. Goode.

Please go to the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center to send a pre-written message urging your Rep. to be a part of this important initiative.

I live in Kalifornia so my representatives are completely useless in this regard. (I’m not even sure they’d make good fertilizer, to be honest.)

It certainly makes me wonder in what direction President Bush has turned.

It looks left except for the WOT.

I first heard of Virgil Goode a few years back when he stood with Tom Tancredo and read off a list of crimes that had been committed by illegal aliens in his state. Many of those were repeat offenders.

Yes, he is. Genealogy is my hobby and I’ve discovered that he is a distant cousin of mine. Very proud.

A lot of different ones. Years ago, I was on an internet genealogy group that researched a particular surname. Both Virgil and I are descendents of the progenitor of the oldest-known man of that line. I’m also from the area he’s from. When there is a public person in any line, people always point out their presence. A lot of this research initially came from census, bible, will and that sort of resource. Both of us are even more distant cousins of former Sen. Bob Packwood.
