Well, now you can understand why. I don’t think he’s lying about it, because nobody has come forward and said he was lying about it.

As someone else explained, it’s not an indictment of Thompson. It just suggests that at the start, they were seeing if he could get support for VP, and then he caught fire, and decided he had the support to be President.

Anyway, if Carl knew that, it would have been a factor in everything he wrote and said about the campaign.

Thompson stated flatly during the campaign that he wasn’t interested in being Veep. Staffers say he was. Staffers are also looking for jobs right now, and getting their names in the press will help, so I take their breathless “inside baseball” statements for what they’re worth.

If Thompson wanted to be McCain’s Veep, he’d have endorsed McCain. I’m sure McCain asked for an endorsement after the SC primary. McCain needs conservatives onboard and may have thought that Thompson was a way to get them. The silence from Thompson has been deafening, and should stop all the unwarranted speculation.
