Actually, I think it might work. People can also go to a different restaurant, cook at home, or just not eat.

You’re right. I was just trying to throw in the obscure reference to political activity not being a dinner party. :)

Actually, I think it might work. People can also go to a different restaurant, cook at home, or just not eat. More or less. But "just not eat" is not an option, unless you are willing to leave the country. If you don't vote, others will choose what you will eat for you.
