I think I read somewhere that they're suing the industrial nations for global warming, etc.

Tiny Tuvalu Steps up Threat to Sue Australia, U.S.

"SYDNEY - The tiny Pacific nation of Tuvalu is stepping up its threat to sue Australia and the United States over their greenhouse gas emissions, saying these are bound to drown the island as warmer global temperatures send sea levels rising. "

At least their island hasn’t been partially evaporated and radiated by nuclear bombs.

I wonder if they will sue that volcano under Antarctica.

As for the USA and Australia... perhaps we should just run out the clock, once the island is submerged, they can't sue anyone.

If Tuvalu ceases to exist, will the .TV Internet domain go away?

Tuvalu is “sinking” because they are pumping the fresh water out from under the island. and doing excavation for building. any number of studies have been done which confirm that there has been about ZERO sea level rise. Because these nutters are yammering about it all the time, it is the first stop for a photo opportunity in any global warming TV piece. It is a crock - very large one.

Everyone in the world wants a hand-out. Maybe with our own economic woes at home we’ll quit being Santa to countries who hate us.

"It makes me feel scared," another woman confesses. "What will happen to us in 10 years' time?"

At a guess, you can breathe water, learn aquaculture, or MOVE.

Sounds like its time for the Tuvaluvians to hop in their outrigger canoes, read some waves and head on out. Honor their heritage, follow in the ways of their ancestors and such. What would these folks do if, say, a typhoon blew a 20 foot storm surge their way?

Personal responsibility seems to have become a lost art. I mean crikey, when saltwater bubbles up out of the ground and forms ponds, its time to think about some practical alternatives aside from suing the US.

Their islands may be sinking. No one has been able to quantify any sea level rise, beyond that which is normal for a world coming out of the last ice age, to my satisfaction.
Any point of reference on the earth is subject to the quandary: sea rising, or land falling. The best satellite measurement I have found was this: in the past 15 years, the sea has risen 4mm, plus or minus 7mm. Sorry, but those are the only numbers I have been able to find; and I need numbers to do this conversation — not anecdotes about folks on the most marginal land on earth whose islands may be sinking.

If the ocean were rising because of ice caps melting, then ALL islands would be going under. Instead, only Tuvalu is, which means it isn’t the oceans. (Instead, it’s mining the gravel to make concrete.)
