WASHINGTON -- President George W. Bush voiced support for abortion opponents attending this year's March for Life rally in Washington.

Tens of thousands of abortion protesters gathered on the National Mall on Tuesday for the annual event.

In remarks being broadcast to demonstrators, Bush said biology confirms that from the start, each unborn child is a separate individual with his or her own genetic code.

Bush has done an outstanding job on pro-life issues and judicial appointments. Let’s hope we have another Chief Executive giving his suppport to these marchers next year.

BTW, a member of Wisconsin Right to Life calling into WIBA this afternoon from the march estimated attendance as 175,000-200,000.

Alright—I’m picking a nit here.

But why does every President since Reagan telephone in to these wonderful pro-life marchers who brave the cold and pay to get to DC on their own dime to march against the American Holocaust, when the assembly is in the line of sight of the White House.

This is the last time President Bush will telephone this message in, as this time next year, will be a new president sworn in.

He no longer has to worry about the press, or the Dems, or the Libs criticizing him. Why could he not actually show up and address the crowd in person. Would that have been so difficult?

I been to this march a few times, and I would listen to the President(it was his father at the time) speak as he phoned in his support of the pro-life movement, and turn and look right at the White House where the phone call was coming from.

This year could have been different. But you know, let’s just keep those red-headed stepchildren of the GOP, those pesky right-to-lifers pacified with a phone call. No need to be shown in person with them.

At least Sen. Brownback came and spoke.

And God bless all of the young people that faithfully come and beat back the bitter cold each year as they stand for life.

This phone call thing has been going on for twenty years.
How wonderful it would have been for the President attend, even briefly. It would have sent a clear message around the world. And the crowd is a friendly one—he would have enjoyed it.

I don’t understand why the standoffishness that is never questioned.

My wife and I go just about every year, we missed this year. Just couldn't swing it.

We have never been to a march where the numbers didn't exceed a hundred thousand. Best kept secret in America.

As for Presdident Bush. he has been the most pro life POTUS we have ever had and for that I thank him deeply.

yep thank you for marching.

I cannot believe this thread is not even getting a hit. How can the Supreme Court get away with this ?

why does the media report on 25 Mecha protesters at a college, or some stupid anti war protest, but MFL might get a 1 second blurb ..

TENS OF THOUSANDS

You’re not nitpicking. If Bush has supported so many pro life bills whats his problem preventing him from attending a public pro life function?

All pro lifers will, they just don’t know it yet. Bush not only held the line against the culture of death, he rolled it back. God bless him for that.

My guess is security. The Mall is a huge open space. The security preps for the inauguration, probably the only other comparison with the open space and number of people, begin weeks in advance. A hall, conference center, or even an arena can be controlled security wise. The Mall can’t be, and even if it could, the expense would be prohibitive.

I thought that too, but then he just went to the Middle East, and he appears at other public functions.

How wonderful it would have been for the President attend, even briefly. . . I don’t understand why the standoffishness that is never questioned.

I've been to the March numerous times, and have always somewhat resented that pro-life Presidents would only "phone in" their support.

It just occurs to me now that it's significant that the March is a protest against the Supreme Court. It actually ends on the steps of the Court. It might be unseemly and a violation of the separation of powers, for a sitting President to be rabble-rousing against another Branch of government. He has official means of communicating with them. So, the phone call is a statement of principle, but also an attempt to avoid a breach of Constitutional etiquette.

Chavez, on the other hand, doesn't hold back from intimidating other branches of Venezuelan government. He is Hitler, without the rationality.
