I sense a little bit of editing on Carl’s part. I have no doubt that Tennessee friends asked him to consider a run...and that perhaps Thompson first thought of VP (let’s face it..he probably thought he wouldn’t be electable as Pres). But I have to believe after reading what Thompson has written and seeing him in the debates that he recognized that he was truly the only conservative in the race. I don’t think he would have put his wife and kids in the position of going for president if he ultimately didn’t want it.
At least he focused the issues on conservative principles. Without Fred in the race, those issues would never have been highlighted! Though I’m disappointed he is out, I do hope that he is an option for VP...but not McCain.

It does explain the bizarre rumoring from the start that he didn’t really want it or that he didn’t act like he wanted it.
