I can't either unless it is a southern pride thing that most of us who live north of the Mason-Dixon line just couldn't understand.
I really wish Fred would have stayed in until at least Super Tuesday. But it is entirely possible that he is angling for the VP slot as a sop to conservatives and getting out now leaves him with the opportunity to unite the party, thereby earning the appreciation of the eventual nominee.
The author of this piece is one of the better political writers for our local fishwrap which, in turn, is a better newspaper, by far, than the dinosaur mass media. She is also a regular Freeper from what I understand.
While I agree that this better positions Fred for a VP nod I truly believe that he was honest about the writing on the wall and was honest with the reality that his continued presence would just split the vote. It is better to let the process reveal true viability and shore up support for candidates than have shown some true delegate success than to wallow in what-ifs.
