Skipped a few posts but I have to comment when people say McCain favors “amnesty”. That is just not true.
Do y’all realize that the Comprehensive Immigration Reform bill actually PUNISHED the immigrants who were/are here illegally? ($2000. fine) And it required them to pay back taxes. It also provided for increased border enforcement, including funding for 300 miles of vehicle barriers, 105 camera and radar towers, and 20,000 more Border Patrol agents. Also the bill would have required an immigrant to be IN THEIR HOME COUNTRY when they apply for their green card.
Before you criticize McCain for actually trying to fix a big problem, how about reading the provisions of the bill. Check out Wikipedia, that ought to be simple enough for you.

And please do not fail to understand that by NOT acting on this problem, and leaving things AS THEY ARE, all the current illegals have in effect - AMNESTY!
Give McCain some credit for actually addressing the problem - that’s a heck of a lot more than is getting done NOW!
The fact remains that he DID 'chicken out' when it came to running against her in 2006--so Liz is absolutely correct!! He obviously had Senatorial ambitions--or he never would have even considered a Senate run in 2000.
In 2006, a little over a year ago (when his health was NOT an issue, as he was beginning to start his Presidential run)--he could have run against Hillary and done his state, his party and his nation a great favor by removing her from the Senate--but, as Liz stated, he DID 'chicken out'.
He could have kept the Senate in Republican hands--seriously damaged Slick Hillie's Presidential ambitions--while enhancing his own (maybe even with some conservatives)--but he 'chickened out'--and did that in the state that knows him best, loves him, and is most 'in-tune' with his liberal leanings.
I submit that he chickened out for three reasons. First, he knew he would lose. Second, (to use his own words when describing Slick's positions vs. his own several years ago)--Slick Hillie's liberal social positions aren't all that different than his in a liberal state like NY. Third, he did not want to even take a chance on losing and wrecking his own Presidential ambitions.
So Liz is NOT lying--in fact, she was 'right on the mark'.
This only proves that Iowa, NH, and a crooked media get to pick our presidential candidates. Real sad.
The Olympics pick new locations everytime, but for some reason the most important institutional event in the world uses Iowa and NH.
No one is talking about his dropping out of the 2000 race, that was understandable because of his cancer.

When he first announced he had cancer, he made a big deal about how the treatment wouldn't affect his schedule. His doctors talked at one of his press conferences confirming this. He didn't stop being mayor of New York during his treatment. And yet the illness forced him to quit a race he was already losing.
He could have kept control of the Senate for the GOP and SERIOUSLY DAMAGED her Presidential chances (possibly destroyed her Presidential chances)--but he chose not to for his own political self-aggrandizement.
He can 'spare us his efforts' now.
Agreed.
Although I highly doubt that he could have beaten Hillary in 2006.
