His name is Lt. Col. Greg Gadson and he used to wear No. 98 for the Army football team and was with the Second Battalion and 32nd Field Artillery, on his way back from a memorial service for two soldiers from his brigade when he lost both his legs to a roadside bomb in Bahgdad. It was the night of May 7, 2007, and Lt. Col. Gadson didn't know it at the time because he couldn't possibly have known, but it was the beginning of a journey that brought him to Lambeau Field Sunday night.
He was there as an honorary co-captain of the Giants, there on the sideline at Lambeau because this Giants' season has become his season now and he wasn't going to watch from some box. This is a Giant at the Super Bowl worth knowing about, as much as any of them.

Gadson speaks to Tom Coughlin and the Giants in the locker room before the Giants started their 10-game road win streak at the Redskins on Sept. 23.

What a story! Now I have a team to root for in the big game. And that is a lot coming from a disillusioned Dallas fan. They have been my team since before Roger.
Thanks for posting this.

Guess I’m a Giants fan now!
God Bless the Giants for what they’ve done here. The Wizards in DC too for everything they do for the wounded and their families at Walter Reed.
Ok.. I’m a Bears fan, but I guess I can be a Giants fan for a few days...
Damm...
I must say I go back to the guy under center being number 14, little old, "Never Give Up!" Eddie LeBaron, for the Pokes.
Even though I should feel kindly toward the Jints since my Cowboys played New York on August 27, 1960 in Louisville, Kentucky. That was the day after my 13th birthday and the Boys whipped the G-men 14-3. That was the Pokes first ever win ever if it was in pre-season! Opps, back then they called them Exhibitions. All six of them--
Of course, in the regular season the Jints managed a 31-31 tie. That kept the Cowboys from having a 0-12 season record their first year.
Then, of course, it took until the 1964 season before we got the best of New York again with a 13-13 tie October 11th and a 31-21 win on November 8th.
Many think the rivalry with the Deadskins and Iggles is hot, but I have more passion for kicking the Meadowland Moron's hind ends! They just added to it this year by knocking Dallas out at home!
Now, after much soul searching, I find myself gritting what few teeth I still have to nubs while wanting Manning Lite & Crew to beat the undefeated Pats. It is not that I have a massive dislike for the New Englanders, it is just a few rabid NE fans here abouts these FR parts I would have to hunt down and snuff if the Pats win the Superbowl because I could not stand hearing them shouting "19-0!" and "Greatest Team Ever!" over and over and over again!
So, I understand your pain, Swat...
and I feel it, too!
Gadzooks! Do I ever...
feel it!
The right team won.

Thank you so much for the ping to this awesome story.
