Stones? Here's an alternate interpreatation: Perhaps they're merely acting like desperate cornered rats, knowing damned well that their time is almost up, and the muzzies are on the verge of taking over.

Here’s the deal with Danes. They are very patient people - I know a few of them. But where others have a line in the sand, they have a cliff. You may come to the cliff’s edge. You may look over it and see the jagged rocks below. But once you jump over that cliff, there ain’t no goin’ back. I’d say the whatevers are within ten feet of that precipice right now.
