I agree. Killing MLK was a terrible thing. He did not deserve such a fate. But, he also did not deserve a national holiday in his honor, a national holiday garnted no other American person. No longer is there a Washington Day, or Lincoln day; no, they have been jumbled together in a Presideent’s day. MLK is the only person who has a national holiday all to himself.

It’s not only the unsuitability of a special day for this one person, but that he was not a great national leader working on behalf of the country. Yes, his cause was good, his purpose was noble, but he was the leader of a movement for a particular group, not someone leading the entire nation, such as a president, or advancing culture for all humanity, like a scientist or great writer. Hence the easy misunderstanding by a foreigner that this is “black day” - it’s obvious it’s really a concession to a political or racial cause, not a true honor for someone who did great things for America. That’s why it’s really an insult to Mr. King after all, because it’s so obviously trumped up.
