For the record, I am not a McCain supporter. I am hoping for a new candidate, now that Thompson appears to be out of it.

I would not call McCain a “liberal”, though he is on the particular issues you cite. McCain defies description of any one word like “conservative” or “liberal”. He’s...McCain.

What offends me about him is that he takes such pleasure in bashing his own party. McCain’s harshest words are always for his fellow Republicans, and he engages in LoveFests with John Kerry, Lieberman, Kennedy etc.

That being said, I pretty much know where he stands. Romney is a big unknown.

Almost ALL presidential candidates were "unknown.".

Most were Governors of states, i.e. Texas, Arkansas, California, etc. --- and relatively few were US Senators.

If you check up on Romney with an open mind, you will find he got fairly high grades from all ProLife organizations, from the NRA, and from taxpayer watchdog groups.
