FRED THOMPSON, IN OR OUT? (Mother in hospital)
PowerLine ^ | January 19, 2008

Posted on 01/19/2008 8:07:10 PM PST by restornu

Fred Thompson just spoke to his supporters in South Carolina, where he appears headed for a weak third or fourth place finish. Thompson thanked everyone and then spoke about America and conservatism's contribution to it. He did not talk about Florida or being in the race to stay.

Word is that Thompson will return to Tennessee to visit his mother in the hospital. While he's there, presumably, he'll consider his options. Frankly, and I say this with regret, it's difficult to see the case for him remaining in the race.

Why all these calls for Thompson to drop out?

I don’t see similar calls for Rudy to drop out, and he hasn’t even registered?

Um, could it be that Rudy is a RINO and a RINO is what the media wants?@#$!?

Nuts, I say Fred.

Stick with it to the end, and take your delegates to the convention, where you will become the nominee.

I hear McCain is taking Tom Ridge, (who, btw made calls for McCain in Mich last week)

And Ridge suddenly decides to slam the President on “torture” yesterday to the press.

I bet Momma says to him “win it Fred, win it”

That is what mamma's are for. But Fred lives in the real world.

and because the nomination is heading towards a brokered convention where he would be the only one who could unite the fractured GOP...and Fred is the best person to ensure that.//Now is the time to contribute to Fred!....very sound advice. 8^)

Its too bad, I think the guy would have made a great general election candidate, he was very close to being my first choice. I just don’t understand how he isn’t beating Romney, at least. Prayers for his momma though.

Still won’t vote for McCain if Fred is his running mate.

Frankly, and I say this with regret, it's difficult to see the case for him remaining in the race.

Simple... there's no front runner. If no one can take control of this race and get a majority of delegates, this one will go to the convention. The winner may not be the one with the most delegates.

As far as I’m considered, Huckabee is part of the Clinton family.
He’s worse than the worst of the worst.
The only issues he’s “conservative” on is injecting evangelical Christianity into the Constitution, which isn’t conservative at all!

He believes the Constitution is a “living, breathing document” that needs to be amended with “God’s law.”
Huckabee is the worst possible combination of issue for either America or the future of the GOP.

I doubt it. McCain is old, Fred is old. Probably a younger governor, likely from the South (Sanford?)

And it won’t matter either way because the final night of the convention is the NFL kickoff game. That means no post-convention bounce because no one will be watching.

A brokered convention hands the election to Hillary.

Great point!

Rudy has how many delegates so far?

The libtards in the media should be writing article after article telling Rudy he should pack it up.

Um, could it be that Rudy is a RINO

It could be. However, if we drop the conspiracy angle, we might say that it is because Fred made a serious attempt to win in Iowa and SC, and Rudy did not.

I think it’s up to the candidate. If he doesn’t feel it’s in his best interest or his family’s, then he may decide it’s not worth it to keep going. Now that his mother is obviously ill, I think that will add impetus for him to drop out. I will be very sad, and won’t care at that point.
