Searchlight, Nev. -- Nevada Senator Harry Reid issued the following statement in response to todays caucuses in Nevada:
Todays caucus was a tremendous success. Well over 100,000 Nevadans got out and made their voices heard, including 69 in my hometown of Searchlight. I congratulate the Nevada Democratic Party for doing such a great job and extend my sincere appreciation to all the staff and volunteers who made Nevada proud.

100,000 people? Harry Reid had been selling these caucuses for a long time as groundbreaking because they would draw more people into the political process in Nevada, and make Nevada's voice bigger on the national stage by moving these caucuses to an earlier date. Well, this was a huge failure on Harry's part. With both caucuses having well over 95% of their precincts reporting the Democrats only had about 10,000 people vote according to their own records. The Republicans have just over 43,000 voters. Not only is that a huge difference (!) but also well under the 100,000 Harry Reid claims. Just think...in a state where the Democratic race was thought to draw out more people because it was thought to be more competitive, very few Democrats actually showed. More people showed up in this state to vote for Mitt Romney than all of the Democratic candidates combined! LOL. Just thought everyone would like to see this if they had not already noted it themselves. Ohh yeah, and after years of being on FR this is my first "topic starter". Hope I did everything right!

Harry Reid Math:
43,000 Nevada Republicans and 10,000 Nevada Democrats make 53,000 caucusing Nevadans. Rounding to the nearest 100,000 gives Harry Reid’s result.

On Fox they were talking and saying the numbers on the screen were not accurate, that a lot more Democrats voted than showed in the numbers.
I don’t remember what they said, but I was wondering how many Dem voters DID come out vs. the Republicans, and historically what that relationship is to the general election.

100,000 people? Not sure what your source is, but AP is reporting: "About 116,000 Democrats, 28 percent of all Nevada's registered Democrats ... More than 44,000 Republicans, 11 percent of registered GOP voters ... The most the Nevada GOP had drawn to a presidential caucus before was 2,000 to 3,000 voters."

The "votes" listed there are actually the delegates chosen. A precinct is allocated, say, 7 delegates, but 7 or 17 or 70 may show up to choose those 7. That's why they can say, probably correctly, that 100,000 showed up at the dem caucuses.
Similarly, the 7 big casino precincts chose about 500 delegates, and I'm sure there were reasonable reports from the 7 big ballrooms showing many times that number of voters there.
