“We all need to remember that this primary race has just begun! Many folks are not like us, and they are just now starting to take a look at the candidates.”

I agree. However if Fred finishes 3rd, or maybe even 2nd in SC, and the ordinary people take a look just before Super Tuesday to see who is running and Fred hasn’t won a contest yet, and is polling single digits in most places. What makes you think they’ll vote for him when he looks like a sure loser.

McCain was his biggest rival in S.C. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the way I was brought up, in order to compete, you go after the guy on top, with all you've got. He didn't, and he deserves to lose.

"although I don't agree with him on every issue, I strongly believe he's the best, most qualified person to lead our great nation. He's a war hero, a patriot, and a great man, and that's why I'm asking you to support John McCain as our next President"

That's what we'll see from FDT in the next few days after he drops out

Well said.

I’m still blaming the RNC Chair for this field.

They built a classic divide and conquer dish cooked up special for the Wicked Witch.

I’ve been to events and I hate to break it too you but Rudy drew many, many more folks. Not sure if this is a sign of anything or not, but Fred has been pretty much MIA. Don’t get me wrong I am a huge fan of his policies but you have to admit this has not been much of a campaign.

HANNITY: ... remind me never to debate you. I've agreed with most of your conservative positions!

(LAUGHTER)

COLMES: But you have to win South Carolina, right?

THOMPSON: I know that, Sean.

COLMES: South Carolina is must-win for you, correct?

THOMPSON: I know that, Sean, but I'm taking on all comers down here in South Carolina.

(LAUGHTER)

COLMES: Is South Carolina must-win for you?

THOMPSON: Well, I need to do very well here, Alan. There's no question about that.

This is the more recent interview I remember. Again, I guess it depends on what the meaning of "very well" is to Fred. One could also argue, if it wasn't a "must win" why didn't he say so? http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/01/thompson_morris_and_gingrich_o.html

He can’t win CA

I'm not so sure. Although Ca is a liberal state but the Republicans here are fairly conservative.

I voted for Arnold only because Tom McClintock was unelectable. Next time I'll go with Tom.

We have three Registered Republicans in my household...we are all voting for Fred in the primaries.

Well, I'm not sure whose point is being better proven by this kind of ad hominem, but hey, that's the first time I've been accused of being an elitist...I think I like it!

Even GOP voters don’t seem very interested in Fred.

Since there have been only five primaries so far, there are 45 states left to determine that.

You’re right. I forgot that while he has yet to actually win a contest, he is at least running well in all the other states polls....oh wait.....nevermind.

The MSM is responsible for saying Fred was getting out after SC.......and foolish people who believed it. ;)

the idea of Fred as a candidate was more attractive than the reality of Fred as a candidate now. He was running ahead of everyone before he joined the race. Now, his poll numbers have been dreary.

It's because the MSM decided to ignore him after the novelty factor wore off. Poll numbers are affected by media coverage.

The big media loathes southern conservatives, especially those that won't dance to their tune.

If both Hunter and Thompson drop out, screw it, I will sit this one out for the first time since 1964

I won't sit out the November election, but I won't bother voting in the GA primary if Fred and Hunter are out by then. Why bother voting when they're all cut from the same liberal RINO cloth?

You are an elitist. You obviously like to attach yourself to a movement but never committing one way or the other so in the end you can proclaim “don’t blame me”. Your “type” is equally well known here at FR and in the world in general. However, judging by this thread that does not stop you from offering your back-handed comments when you find something apparently to your liking.

Ad hominem, wear it if the shoe fits.

McCain was his biggest rival in S.C.

That is incorrect. Fred had a bteer chance winning over social cons in SC than liberal Republicans.

MAybe because we follishly believe people vote on issues and not on a popularity contest.

However with narcissism at an all time high it appears the America we believe in is dead. Stupid us.

Why would they pick Thompson his delegate count would be almost nothing. It seems pretty obvious to anybody not a Fred Head, but voting Americans don’t seem very interested in Fred. Even GOP voters don’t seem very interested in Fred. How in the heck would a brokered convention help Fred. I keep seeing his supporters push this scenario calling him the best one to unify the GOP, but IMHO if he ran a presidential campaign like he’s ran his primary campaign, he’d get rolled. Surely the GOP leadership knows this.

It may well come down to a brokered convention. I believe its been about 60 years since the last one.

It's my understanding that a brokered convention doesn't necessarily decide who to nominate based on the number of delegates one has.

In my scenerio it will come down to who can win in the general and who best represents the Reagan Coaltion.

That's Fred hands down.
