COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Fred Thompson, trailing Mike Huckabee and John McCain in the polls, will continue his presidential bid even if he finishes third in today's South Carolina primary, his campaign said.
Thompson, who had talked of South Carolina as his last stand, appeared this afternoon at a gun show in a suburban Shriners' auditorium -- a natural fit given his strong support of the Second Amendment right to own firearms. Several patrons wore "Fred '08" stickers on their clothing; as Thompson swept into the packed hall he was greeted by a modest round of applause.
"Go, Fred!" one woman shouted.
"How we doin'?" Thompson asked, greeting passers-by as he walked along the narrow aisles displaying hunting scopes and high-tech shotguns. He shook hands, paused for autographs, and posed for photos snapped on cell phones.

The funny part is you think that would actually help anything...LOL
Clearly it’s time for Hunter to do the right thing.
I think that would be a surprise to Levin and Rush. Someone aught to tell them if they are endorsing a candidate.
If both Hunter and Thompson drop out, screw it, I will sit this one out for the first time since 1964. I’ve been burned too many times by fake conservatives.
Lame babble. Par for the course.
You showed surprisingly honest self-awareness in that post. The meds must be kicking in.
I only buy made in USA clothes and shoes. Means I have to order online alot of the time. Never heard of Church’s...other than the fried chicken joint.
Save it.
Who are you shilling for or are you one of the altruistic snobs “above it all”...?
Thank you. Now if you can send me some of your meds, maybe I can calm down and vote for Baker protege. LOL
The thin-skinned Fred-heads here have jumped all over you with their usual histrionics but I got the same impression as you did from TV and radio interviews, etc. Thompson may not have literally said “I am pulling out if I don’t win SC” but he certainly gave the strong impression his campaign was depending on South Carolina. He must be thinking that his staying in the race helps his friend McCain...either that or he has some campaign dollars left and feels he might as well keep his vacation trip going.
I think he is jealous.
Just ring for your ward nurse, she’ll be right along with your little paper cup.
In interviews all he is ever asked about are STUPID things, and his words are twisted and taken out of context. The MSM is scared of Fred more than any other candidate.
I’d frankly rather have a candidate who is “grouchy” with the MSM than one who tapdances with hat in hand to be loved by the talking heads.
Obviously.
yawn...
SBSDD...
The Nile.
“Id like to see the borders secured.”
And just how does Paul think that will happen when he doesn’t want to build the fence and wants the states to worry about it. Yea, that’s secure.
Thank you. It is rough on these threads these days, but once a candidate is finally picked for good, then all FREEPERS will get together again or at least most.
Well I can't say he's the complete package because there are a few things in his Senate record that I don't like, such as his support and vote for McCain's unconstitutional Incumbent Protection Act aka CFR. But he's much closer to being a complete conservative than the others, except Hunter of course who in my book is complete, and that's the best we can hope for this time around.
Rush hasn't explicitly endorsed Fred. But it's implicit for those of us who, like Rush, can "read the stitches on a fast ball".
However, his brother David did endorse Fred.
Levin likes Fred a lot. I don't know if he has explicitly endorsed Fred. But it makes sense that he would.
If its McCain or Huckabee, that will not happen on FR. Guarantee it.
