Callous Conservative

At a campaign stop attended by a CBS reporter in Lady's Island, S.C., Thompson was asked if he, "as a Christian, as a conservative," supported President Bush's global AIDS initiative. "Christ didn't tell us to go to the government and pass a bill to get some of these social problems dealt with. He told us to do it," Thompson responded. "The government has its role, but we need to keep firmly in mind the role of the government, and the role of us as individuals and as Christians on the other."

With the HUGE amount of money that’s been spent on the public school system, I find it hard to believe it’s not excellent, don’t you? Since that’s the reasoning you’re using, I’d like an answer to my question first. Just because you’re pouring money into something doesn’t mean it’s automatically going to succeed.

Which is a good reason why governments need to stop wasting money on AIDS in Africa. The biggest problem is still the fact that many men over there won’t wear condoms even though they are available and they know about the dangers of unprotected sex.

It does not get any better than this.

Fred gets it.
Now, will the voters?

We can’t let them chase Fred out of the race. He’s got the right message and it’s going to defeat the rest.

I’ve said I don’t support the governmental charity - if I want my money to go to support causes in Africa, I’ll give out of my own pocket. And I tihnk the latter part of your post is a prime example of why many people aren’t just “stupid”. If the problem is the men, what about the women, hm? Especially in regards to Islamic parts of Africa, they don’t have much in the way of a choice.

In a 2007 interview Gerson revealed that his childhood political hero was Jimmy Carter, and he went on to say that if it wasn't for the issue of abortion he'd likely have remained what Gerson calls a "Bob Casey" Democrat.
...
Gerson was named by Time as one of "The 25 Most Influential Evangelicals In America" in the magazine's February 7, 2005 issue of the magazine, listing Gerson as the ninth most influential.
...
Gerson joined the Bush campaign before 2000 as a speechwriter and went on to head the White House speechwriting team.

Gerson is a "compassionate conservative". He believes that government should do God's work, with your tax dollars serving as a tithe.

Government is his church.

I don’t remember those verses in the bible that hearkens us to look to the government to “God’s work”. We are to do God’s work.

I’ll be phoning tomorrow. I’m giving another $100 tonight. My wife won’t be happy but this is important. Many don’t realize it but this humble man is the first in a long time who understands the limits of government and articulates them so well that we have an opportunity to vote for. He is a leader.
He may not be a Reagan but in some ways I think he may turn out to be better than Reagan if we empower him. So many politicians have to sell their souls. The unique way that Thompson is running his campaign is keeping those chains off him.

None of the others will ever speak the “Straight talk” about government limits except maybe Paul but he doesn’t seem to understand the critical nature of national security. (Hunter and Keyes probably would be in line but even Hunter has praised international aid programs.)
