incensed over his treatment of Huckabee

What treatment is that?

The same treatment given to any other socially liberal democrat?
Hauckabee just happens to be running on the R ticket because the dems have no use for white evangelicals.

Otherwise he looks pretty much the same as hillary.

Right. That’s the “sort of treatment” I’m talking about. Totally asinine analysis. Say it often enough, though, and people start to believe it.

Well, Reagan had to fight the Republican powers-that-be of his time to get the nomination. Huckabee’s going to have to do the same. And in my opinion he’ll be as successful as Reagan if he’s ever elected. He’s got the communication skills Reagan did, the moral center that Bush has, and a far better grasp on conservative economics than he’s given credit for.

Compare that to the nonsense that’s going on in DC today, where the Republicans are getting ready to throw in with the Dems and have a giant “stimulus party.” Reagan would throw a fit. I watched Reagan at his low point, in about 1982, when he stood behind Volcker’s restrictive monetary policy to bring inflation down while waiting for the tax cuts he’d fought so hard for to take effect. The economy was far worse than today, and it clearly was taking a toll on him personally, but he stood his ground and we got nearly 20 years of economic strength from his decision to do so.

Now, we get Keynesian economics II, and from a Republican president. I believe Huckabee, like Reagan, would use the current distress as leverage to get good policies in place, not bad ones. Now, for instance, is the time to change the tax code, by pointing out the many ways it frustrates productivity. Bush is incapable of it, though he started strong. Now, his tax cuts are two years from expiring and instead of fighting to make them permanent, he’s going to go the Jimmy Carter route and send out some checks.

If someone has the sense to ask Huckabee (and the other candidates) what they would be advocating RIGHT NOW if they held the office, listen closely and see who actually has a plan that makes sense. My money’s on Huckabee because, as I keep saying in here, Huckabee understands all this.

By the way, if you really want to jump-start the economy, heal the stock market and make us more competitive internationally, just eliminate the corporate income tax. Oh, but that’s what the Fair Tax would do, plus far more.
