“Obnoxious to no one and necessary for party harmony” sounds like Fred Thompson (which is exactly why I’ve been saying a brokered convention favors Fred.).

“Third rate nonentity” sounds like Duncan Hunter.

Thompson or Hunter could be the favorite of the Republican base, but in a brokered convention the front-runner agrees to stand down for party unity. That could leave Hunter or someone like Haley Barbour, truly “Obnoxious to no one and necessary for party harmony”.

Are you suggesting it's a race to the bottom? May the least man win!
The front-runner doesn't agree to stand down to someone totally unpopular with no support.

And Haley Barbour has no appeal outside of the GOP in the south.
