“Nonsense. In fact, there is a social-engineering subsidy (child tax deduction) for it.”
The pittance that you are presumably referring to (the $3,400 Federal deduction for dependents) is likely offset by the higher property taxes that families with children pay for larger homes. And keep in mind that’s a tax deduction, not a credit. If you’re in the 25% income tax bracket that means a reduction of $850 in your taxes. That’s not favorable tax treatment or a subsidy, that’s being handed table scraps.
Unless you are aware of some tax windfall that middle class parents are eligible for (please do tell!), then I’ll stand by my assertion that families with children are taxed at an unconscionable rate.
The fact is that it's a special privilege some people get that others don't.

Someone with X house value pays Y taxes, with no penalty (or subsidy) for having children in the house.

Only insofar as everyone is taxed at an unconscionable rate (true enough). However, parents are taxes at a somewhat less unconscionable rate, and thus have no complain specific to their parental status.
I was wondering about the “local theater” bit! Thanks for the info.
