The most lively place amd safest place in Chicago later in the night is Wrigleyville. Can’t the same for the places where those ill-kempt knuckle dragging White Sox fans hang out.

Nor does the visitor fail to remark on the Midwestern friendliness. I got quick reminder of this as I entered Chicago Place shopping center. A woman on her way out said, "Hello, how are you today?" For one startled moment I thought I should know who she was.

Yeah, because if a stranger says that to you in the Bay Area you instinctively back away and reach for your can of Jehovah's Witness repellent. ;)

For what it's worth, I like the Chicago Spire a lot. We need more daring buildings in the US - Dubai seems to be attracting away most of the world's architectural energy.

We in the USA became too conservative with our skyscrapers. Especially in New York City. At least it’s good to see Chicago more daring than the Big Apple.

Chicago is not a primary target for terrorists especially comparing New York City and Washington D.C.

So I would not be that concerned.

“So I would not be that concerned.”

Really? Even when I’m in the ‘nuclear fallout range?’ It took me three years to grow out my hair...I don’t want my blond tresses to all fall out now, LOL! ;)

Sorry. I’ve been in a “hunker down” mood since 9/11. It’s not that I’m NOT living my life, and I haven’t let them “win,” but while I hope the terrorist blew their wad (sorry) on 9/11, it’s about 7 years between major attack attempts by those nutjobs...and this IS 2008...and an election year.

However, I’m sure “The Donald” is well insured against this kind of thing, and his tower in Chicago will be paid for a dozen times over...

I’ll be in my well-stocked bunker if you need me. *SHRUG*

One of the reasons that we have not had a major attack in the past 7 years is due to our decisive leadership of our great President who took the fight to terrorists overseas.

Of course there's always a terrorist risk wherever we go, but right now it's not that high and the terrorists are more focused in defending their havens in Iraq and Afghanistan, even Pakistan to an extent.

The Spire has nothing compared to Burj Dubai.

That’s a good point. No doubt that they’re weakened...but with our open borders and ‘politically correct’ lack of intel, there are plenty living amongst us already.

You are correct. It’s only matter of time before the next terrorist strike. But statisically I’m more likely to die of a heart attack or a car accident than to get killed un expectedly in a terrorist attack.
