After months of speculation, Tom Manion, a Republican from Doylestown Township, is expected to announce today that he plans to run for Congress this year against freshman Congressman Patrick Murphy, D-8.
Manion, a 53-year-old colonel in the Marine Reserves and a pharmaceutical executive, is the father of Marine 1st Lt. Travis Manion, who was killed in April by sniper fire during his second tour of duty in Iraq.
Former Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, who many believed would seek a rematch against Murphy this year, said Monday he wouldn't run for Congress and instead will support Manion's campaign.

I don’t know anything about Manion, but I intend to find out. I’m tired and embarrassed at having this light weight for a congressman.
This is great news for Bucks County! In 2006 the rats dug up “Iraqi War veteran” Patrick Murphy as one of their gimmicks to try to win a House seat... and it worked (barely). It turned out Murphy was a lawyer in Iraq, probably one of those slimeballs who went around trying to convict Americans of “war crimes” and “atrocities”, etc. (although I don’t know that for certain).
In any event, Tom Manion’s son Travis was a true American hero, and Tom stands a real good chance at retaking this seat for the Republicans. Murphy won the seat by a hair in 2006 on the strength of a sliver of Philadelphia that was gerrymandered into the district. Murphy LOST Bucks County, which is the vast majority and heart of the district, because conservatives and Republicans in general did not turn out. (That may have been due in some part to the incumbent Mike Fitzpatrick’s going against the party on several issues [he opposed ANWR drilling, for example]. Mike is pro-life and a good guy, but he tried to play it the same way previous office-holder Jim Greenwood played it, as a “moderate”, and it probably cost him.)
In any event, Patrick Murphy is a typical Democrat socialist and hopefully we can dump him after just one term.

Do you know if they're related?
"He didnt have to be on patrol that day," said his uncle, Chris Manion. "He was on the front lines because it was the right thing to do. He served, not because it was easy or because he liked what he was doing; he did it because of us. He was serving for us. If there were more people like Travis Manion, the world would be a better place."
Here are excerpts from Travis Manion's email and letter home:
"As far as the job is going, the area is not good right now but its getting better, and to be honest, Im amazed at the ability and dedication of some of these Iraq Army soldiers. ... The IAs in this battalion are very eager to fight and to take control of this city. It was at times frustrating the first time I was here and it will and has been this time, but as in anything in life, true success does not come from battles won easily."
"There are many different views on our mission here. However, all I can say with certainty is that there are thousands of Americans over here working hard towards a positive outcome in Iraq. I am not sure the average American sees the positives these servicemen and women accomplish or even understand the sacrifices of their efforts. However, whatever course of action our leadership decides upon, there are those in waiting, ready to carry out the mission in support of our country and in defense of its people and their freedoms."
Tom Manion and Patrick Murphy are on opposite sides of the Iraq War, the War on Terror, and on different sides of America itself.
Another grunt for office....excellent
No, but I'll dig around and see if I can find out.
Murphy won in 2006 because (a)he raised tons of cash and volunteers from moveon.org and they blanketed the small Democratic parts of the district; (b) Rick Santorum and Lynn Swann were a drag on all Republicans in Pennsylvania; and (c) Mike Fitzpatrick ran a horrible campaign. I hope Mr. Manion will run a better campaign, because without George Bush to run against, Murphy has nothing to say to this district and should be defeated easily.
