Anti-tax crusader Douglas Bruce will likely be sworn in Monday to fill a vacant House seat.
Just when he will be sworn in is still a matter of contention.
House Speaker Andrew Romanoff wants him to take the oath at 8 a.m.
Bruce said he wants to wait until 10 a.m., when the House begins its session.
"I regret that this simple ministerial act is the latest focus of political consternation and unneeded tension," he wrote. "These publicized pressures are added reason I asked the speaker to allow me 90 seconds right after my oath to speak to my new colleagues (not to an empty chamber) and ...
Bruce put off his swearing-in for more than a month so he would be eligible to serve eight more years, instead of six, because this year wouldn't be considered a full term.

Now, we are going to have some fun.
.
Bruce is well known for writing the revenue-limiting Taxpayer’s Bill Of Rights in 1992.
Glad to see he’s rocking the boat right off the bat.
Douglas Bruce? I think we used one of those for a Christmas tree one year. (Douglas Spruce)
BUMP! (Bruce should just get sworn in and get to work.)
“If your goal is to drain the swamp, you have to wrestle with the alligators.”
He should be able to chose when he wants to swear in. I would say the same thing if he was a Democrat. It just makes sense.
Let the fun begin !
The DUmmie leaders are afraid of Bruce.
8-)
Exactly. Be sure to bring a broom handle. Those gators are nothing to fool around with.
And it's been steeply downhill since then. Doug Bruce is a walking, ranting, campaign poster for the Democrats.
It's not a matter of just picking a convenient time. Mr. Bruce was appointed to fill an unexpired term. He is trying to push his swearing-in date back so as to get around the term limits on his seat.

Having now been given a bit more detail, would you still say the same thing.
I guess I thought it was just a ceremony like military when they reenlist, but I see now that he is trying to game the system so no I don’t agree with this. Sounds unethical. Thanks for the information.
Mr. Bruce is a local, and I’ve had the “honor” of watching his antics for a long time, now. He was recently a county commissioner, and his antics there were egregiously self-serving — he was a real embarrassment. And that’s the real hell of it. Not all of his ideas are bad (though a lot of them are). But even the good ideas are so tainted by association that nothing comes of them.
While I certainly respect what he did with TABOR, the name calling and nasty words he's engaged in have not helped him or his cause at all.
In my own opinion, people who resort to name calling rarely have anything much of value to say. In the end, that's a real shame because I know he has had a lot to offer.
Thanks for explaining what he's up to. This had seemed a pointless fight otherwise.
I think that there are two different issues.
He is starting in 2008 ( not in 2007 ) so as to be available for the extra potential term. He may not get re-elected anyway.
Second point : 8 am = empty hall. 10 am = full hall.
I could be wrong ?
Well I’m surprised. Doug has always shunned the limelight, ya know. :-))

Is this the Colorado House? Also, was the vacancy due to resignation? Thanks again.
