Thanks for the letter, it sheds a lot of light on what Reagan said in the year before he ran for President.

You're welcome. Isn't it amazing how similar the words were to those uttered before he signed the bill as governor? In other words, the man was never pro-choice or pro-abortion. His positions never changed. Funny--you still are unwilling to just admit that.

How do you mean?

In other words, the man was never pro-choice or pro-abortion.

I never said he was pro-abortion or pro-choice, did I?

His positions never changed.

Seems to me like it did. From the very letter you cite:

If faced with the same problem today, I can assure you I would make sure there were no loopholes in the bill.

From this statement, it appears to me RR changed his political (not necessarily his moral) position: he would be more circumspect regarding loopholes. Not that he was ever pro-abortion, but that he did change his thinking on under what circumstances it was permissible.

The most important commitment to me is the last line in the letter: ...please rest assured there is no way I could or would change my position with regard to my opposition to the permissive abortion that is taking place throughout our land.

I think most of the R candidates agree with that.
